Join Lesley on an exploration to Myanmar (Burma), a land of temples and pagodas, incense and temple bells, monks and nuns in burgundy-colored robes, haunting images of temples dotting the Bagan landscape. Beginning in the capital Yangon (Rangoon) we visit the golden Shwedagon Pagoda. Fly to the hilly North and explore Inle Lake set in a beautiful landscape, known for its unique leg-rowers and lakeshore villages built on stilts.
On to Kyaing Tong in mountainous Eastern Shan where we visit villages with diverse ethnic minorities who still wear traditional headdress and clothing.
Continue to Mandalay, a center for traditional crafts and from where we visit relatively untouched small villages. We’ll meander in fabulous local markets, discover crafts from pottery and tapestry to papier mache, meet bamboo and rice straw papermakers, see the weaving and dyeing of silk, cotton and lotus stems using natural dyes. Finally to Bagan, a breathtaking landscape of ancient temples of shrines.
The charm, warmth and genuine hospitality of this unique country is something so very special and memorable. A trip of a lifetime with fabulous photographic opportunities!
OPTIONAL EXTENSION TO CAMBODIA: crafts, textiles and visit the schools of the Cambodian Children’s Dream Organization!
